The Deplorables, like most bands, has been on a hiatus since the coronavirus pandemic began and shut down non-essential businesses.

Lead Singer Greg Clutts said one of the things they have done during the pandemic is raise money for bartenders and waitresses through Facebook Live performances. One of the performances was held in Clutts’ garage, and another in Chevy’s Lounge.

The band also consists of Joe Norris on bass and vocals, Eric Westray on drums and vocals, Kevin Breeden on keyboard and Steve Jones on guitar and vocals.

Clutts said these days he feels grateful to still be playing at his age. He and many of the band members are in their 50’s.

“We are finally playing the music we love,” Clutts said.

He said every band can play songs like Take it Easy and Margaritaville, but they specifically try to aim for songs that aren’t played as often–songs that inspire them and give them goosebumps.

“What matters most is if you can get up there and feel good,” he said.

The band will return to the stage this Friday night at Teddy’s in Herrin. They will be playing outside, and Teddy’s will be open for business.
